Discover how shifting from what you don’t want to what you prefer can soften resistance, reveal your values, and help you respond to life with more clarity and peace. Chapter 1

Rewriting Our Conditioning with the Language of Preference

Dr. Elisa Malangone

Hey Gorgeous soul! It's me, Elisa! Welcome to Insight Spotlight. A how to segment within Ignite Your Insight that allows us to turn the Insight we have been discussing over the past few episodes into action. ! And today, I want to start by inviting you to take a deep, slow breath with me. Just let it out. Over our last few episodes, we've traveled down some pretty deep, windy roads together, haven't we? We looked at those hidden rules we inherited from our family systems, how a random song lyric or a cultural expectation can quietly install a belief in our minds without our permission, and how fear can make us put our biggest dreams on hold.

Dr. Elisa Malangone

Essentially, we've been unmasking our conditioning. But once you see it, once you realize, "Oh wow, I've been running on an old program," the big question is: what do we do next? How do we actually start rewriting the story? Today, I want to give you one of the simplest, most potent tools in my transformation toolbox. It's just two words: "I prefer..."

Dr. Elisa Malangone

Think about how we usually talk to ourselves. We say things like, "I loathe being single," or "I can't stand this job," or "I am so sick of feeling exhausted." We are so incredibly clear about what we don't want, what we resent, and what we fear. But every time we speak from that place of lack, we are anchoring our energy right back into the very thing we're trying to escape. Remember, we often manifest what we speak about and tolerate.

Dr. Elisa Malangone

Now, what happens if we pivot? Instead of "I loathe being single," what if you say, "I prefer a loving, conscious partnership"? Feel the difference in your body when you hear those words. The first statement keeps your eyes locked on the empty space beside you, while the second instantly turns your head toward possibility. It creates a choice where you thought there was only a circumstance.

Dr. Elisa Malangone

And this tool does something even deeper--it reveals your true, underlying values. When we catch ourselves saying, "I don't want any more drama in my life," we're still putting the spotlight on the drama. But if we translate that into, "I prefer honesty, peace, and direct communication," suddenly the drama fades into the background, and your values take center stage. You are no longer just reacting; you are actively designing your life.

Chapter 2

Softening Resistance, Finding Completion, and Navigating Your Future

Dr. Elisa Malangone

But what about when things go completely sideways? This is where "I prefer" becomes absolute magic for softening our internal resistance. When reality doesn't match our plans, our default reaction is often, "This shouldn't be happening!" We end up arguing with the present moment, which is a little like asking the rain for a refund.

Dr. Elisa Malangone

Try shifting that heavy, exhausting resistance to, "I would have preferred a different outcome." Do you hear how that gently lowers the emotional temperature? You aren't pretending to be happy about a bad situation. You are honoring your truth, but you are also stopping the war with reality so you can actually work with what is.

Dr. Elisa Malangone

This connects so beautifully to what we discussed recently about completion versus forgiveness. So often, we get stuck waiting for an apology that is never going to come. We tell ourselves, "They should have owned up to what they did." But if we apply our new tool, we can say, "I would have preferred accountability, but I can still choose my own peace."

Dr. Elisa Malangone

That is how you reclaim your power. You stop letting someone else's lack of growth keep you in chains.Your preference for peace becomes your ultimate compass.Whether you're navigating a difficult relationship, a career transition, or simply your own inner landscape, you can begin charting a new course by declaring what you prefer."I prefer kindness. I prefer presence. I prefer genuine connection. I prefer adventure. I prefer people who know how to stay."

Dr. Elisa Malangone

Over time, you stop just identifying what you want to avoid, and you start identifying who you are actually becoming. So, here is an enhancement for you this week: just notice. Notice how often you speak in terms of what you don't want, and gently, with so much love, replace those statements with, "I prefer." Language shapes our perception, our perception shapes our choices, and our choices ultimately shape our lives.

Dr. Elisa Malangone

Perhaps one of the most powerful things we can do after recognizing our conditioning is to begin consciously choosing our direction. And sometimes, that entire journey begins with those two simple words: "I prefer."

Dr. Elisa Malangone

Until next time, this is Dr. Elisa Malangone reminding you that awareness is where freedom begins. Much Love...Light & Insight.
