There is something incredibly beautiful about being a generous person. Generous with your time. Generous with your wisdom. Generous with your resources. Generous with your connections. Generous with the spaces you create for other people. But generosity carries wisdom, too. And lately, I’ve been taking inventory of **the generous pour.** Welcome back to *Ignite Your Insight*. I’m your host, Dr. Elisa Malangone… but you can just call me Elisa. For over a decade, I've held the honor of empowering individuals who are at a crossroads in loss, love and life to uncover what’s really driving their patterns, reconnect with their own inner knowing, and subconsciously and soulfully shift into the version of themselves ready to emerge into the life they truly desire to live.

Recently, I hosted an event for my community. I planned it, paid for it, created the experience, brought people together and simply wanted everyone to have a beautiful day. At one point, someone looked at me and asked: “When is the sales presentation?” I giggled. Because there wasn’t one. There was no pitch coming. There wasn’t a moment where I was going to gather everyone together and say, “Okay, now here’s what I’m selling.” I had simply decided to pour into my community. And I loved that someone actually asked, because it reminded me how accustomed we have become to assuming generosity must have an agenda attached to it. Sometimes the gift really is the gift. ### And Then I Started Paying Attention Last month, I also gifted a number of Insight Calls to people in my community. Again, I went into those conversations wanting to pour. I listened. I coached. I asked deeper questions. I held space. I shared what I could see. I left everyone better than I found them. And afterward, I quietly observed the exchange. That word matters: **observed.** I wasn’t keeping score. I wasn’t sitting there thinking, “Well, I gave you this, so now what are you going to give me?” I simply paid attention. Because I believe generosity and discernment belong in the same room. You can give freely and still notice how people receive you. You can love generously and still notice who loves generously. You can support people and still notice who supports you. You can create opportunities for others and still notice who takes an opportunity to pour something meaningful back. That doesn’t make your generosity transactional. It makes you conscious.

The Universal Law of Giving and Receiving states... that energy flows in a continuous circle and you receive back in equal measure what you put out into the world. After the event I hosted, I created a very simple opportunity for people who wanted to participate in that exchange. I invited them to share their experience with the community. Their words could potentially help someone else discover our community of support. Their experience could help our community grow. Their voice could pour into something that had just poured into them. And that exercise gave me an enormous amount of insight. I’m not going to share the results because the results aren’t the point. The **awareness** was the point. Sometimes we become so committed to being generous that we forget generosity is also information. It reveals. It reveals how we give. It reveals how we receive. It reveals who celebrates us. It reveals who participates. It reveals who only knows how to stand underneath the pitcher. And it reveals the beautiful people who instinctively reach for their own pitcher and say: **“Here. Let me pour something back.”** Those people matter. ### Make Room to Receive This is something I talk about in coaching all the time. If you identify as the giver, the helper, the healer, the strong one, the person who remembers birthdays, makes introductions, checks in, creates experiences and makes sure everybody else has what they need… I want you to consider something: **Have you actually made room for anyone to give to you?** Because being a generous giver is only one side of the energetic exchange. There is grace in receiving, too. Receiving a compliment without deflecting it. Receiving help without immediately trying to repay it. Receiving someone’s generosity without feeling guilty. Receiving support. Receiving recognition. Receiving love. Receiving someone else's generous pour. Being a gracious receiver allows another person to experience themselves as generous. Think about that. Sometimes refusing to receive interrupts someone else's opportunity to give. ### Take Inventory Without Keeping Score. So perhaps this week, take a little inventory. Where are you pouring? Who are you pouring into? Where does generosity flow easily in your life? Where are you constantly replenishing something that never seems to pour anything back? And most importantly: **Where have you become so accustomed to pouring that you haven't noticed the people quietly pouring into you?** Those may be some of the relationships worth cherishing most. This isn’t about matching every dinner invitation, every favor, every dollar, every phone call or every gesture. Human relationships aren't spreadsheets. Balance doesn't always happen in equal measurements. Someone may pour into you with encouragement. Someone else may pour through loyalty. Someone may show up. Someone may make an introduction. Someone may tell people about your work when you aren't in the room. Someone may simply remember to ask: **“And how are *****you*****?”** The pour can look different and still be generous. ### The Lesson or the Blessing Here is what I have come to believe: **Every generous pour returns with information.** Sometimes it returns as a blessing. Sometimes it returns as a lesson. Sometimes someone surprises you with their generosity. And then...Sometimes their response shows you exactly where that relationship belongs in your life. Either way, you receive. And that means you never have to regret being generous. You just simply become wiser about where you pour next. Don't allow another person's capacity to receive, reciprocate or appreciate your generosity to change the generous nature of who you are. Keep your heart. Keep your generosity. Keep pouring goodness into this world. And keep your eyes open. Because generosity without discernment can become depletion. Generosity...with discernment...becomes wisdom. ### Here is Your Insight for This Week. Ask yourself: **Where am I generously pouring?** **Where am I being generously poured into?** **And am I allowing myself to receive it?** You don't need to keep score. You don't need to demand reciprocity. You don't need to stop being generous. Simply notice. Notice where your presence is appreciated. Notice where your generosity is honored. Notice who reaches for the pitcher, too. Because sometimes the universe pours back through the people standing right beside us. And sometimes it pours back through the wisdom of showing us where we no longer need to keep refilling the glass. **Pour generously.** **Receive graciously.** **And pay attention to where the pour is honored.** Because for every generous pour you offer, I believe the universe has your back. You will receive a lesson or a blessing. And quite often, the lesson becomes the blessing. Until next time, gorgeous souls… Much Love, Light, and Insight.
